Finite Games Provide Lessons to the Infinite
There are many reasons why SportsEpreneur.com exists. I’ve even written about it a few times:
Why Sports and Entrepreneurship (an article that is coming soon)
I Have to Admit—There’s A Lot of Self-Talk in SportsEpreneur Content
But as I continually assess what I am working on, I need to consider if it still makes sense. In this case, continue the process of creating content around sports and business. Those thoughts brought me to this: can sports really apply to business? Or is it something that people that like sports just pontificate about? I mean, I know I can pontificate from time to time (ask my kids!), but it is a serious question I had to consider.
And then it hit me.
Finite games (sports) provide lessons to the infinite.
What does that mean?!
A game, say a football game, has a winner and a loser. It’s finite. Even if we drag it out over a season, it’s still finite. There are set rules and boundaries. And one team wins while the other teams lose.
But if an individual (playing, coaching, or even watching—which is most of us) allows oneself to take lessons from the finite game and apply to say their self-development, well then that individual is playing an infinite game.
While I can take a game and enjoy it in the finite (and that alone I believe is often worthy of taking in a match) I’m much better off if I don’t leave it at that.
And with that, I do believe sports can apply to business and self-betterment—if one doesn’t get stuck in the finite.
It’s a big reason why SportsEpreneur.com exists.
